The founding of the town of Greenwood and the founding of the Greenwood Presbyterian Church are intertwined. The same folks did both. In 1825, hardy settlers moved up from Kentucky, and organized the first church in this area (this Presbyterian church), and the town which followed became Greenwood.
We are known to be friendly and welcoming, celebrating your journey of faith. We are small enough to be like family, nurturing and caring about you. We have a program for all ages—children, adults, retirees, and the homebound. We meet together for worship, for studies in the Bible and current events, and for mission activities, and are expanding our reach by streaming the worship through Facebook. We are considering how to do more on other platforms.
Our worship is welcoming, with traditional hymns mixing with an occasional more recent one, all in the service of hearing God speak to us, and coming to believe in – and live our lives for — Jesus Christ. There is sure to be a time for children in worship, with childcare before, and Sunday School the second half of that hour. When this COVID relents (!) we will again gather for Coffee Fellowship after church to catch up with friends and welcome new ones.
The Greenwood Presbyterian Church has a strong community focus, and we want to connect and build friendships with our neighbors around us. We share our facilities and grounds to serve our neighbors in many ways: AA groups, the Scouts, emergency relief and community meals, to mention a few.
We’re delighted you joined us for a look-in here on our site, but we’d really like to get to know you in person!
